The Further Adventures of Robinson Crusoe
The Further Adventures of Robinson Crusoe was published by Daniel Defoe in 1719, only months after the first part. Now in his sixties and widowed, Crusoe cannot resist returning to his island, where he finds the colony left behind growing amid quarrels, battles with cannibals and the reform of the mutineer Will Atkins under the guidance of a French priest. He then sets out again, to Brazil, Madagascar, where his crew commits a massacre, India and China, and returns overland across Tartary and Siberia to England. The book shows Defoe's appetite for travel, trade and moral reflection. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
