The Complete Poetical Works of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

This edition gathers the poetry of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, the most widely read American poet of the nineteenth century. It includes the early Voices of the Night with A Psalm of Life, the Ballads with The Wreck of the Hesperus, The Village Blacksmith and Excelsior, the verse drama The Spanish Student, and the long narrative poems that made his reputation: Evangeline, The Song of Hiawatha, The Courtship of Miles Standish and Tales of a Wayside Inn, which opens with Paul Revere's Ride. Later collections such as Flower-de-Luce and Ultima Thule follow, with the religious trilogy Christus, the drama Michael Angelo and his translations from European poets. Longfellow's clarity and steady music explain why so many of these lines are still quoted. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first poems are free.
