Plutarch's Lives, Volume 4 (of 4)
This fourth and final volume of the Bohn's Library translation of Plutarch's Parallel Lives by Aubrey Stewart and George Long, published between 1880 and 1892, contains the later pairs. The Spartan reformers Agis and Kleomenes are matched with the Roman tribunes Tiberius and Caius Gracchus; the orators Demosthenes and Cicero stand together; Demetrius the Besieger is paired with Mark Antony, and Dion of Syracuse with Brutus, each pair followed by Plutarch's comparison. The unpaired lives of Artaxerxes, Aratus, Galba and Otho complete the collection, and the volume ends with the index to all four. Stewart and Long aimed at a close, plain translation with explanatory notes. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
