Eighty Years and More; Reminiscences 1815-1897
Elizabeth Cady Stanton was born into a prosperous family in Johnstown, New York, in 1815, learned Greek to console a father who wished she had been a boy, and at the Seneca Falls convention of 1848 wrote the declaration that demanded the vote for women. This memoir, published in 1898, covers her childhood, her marriage to the abolitionist Henry Stanton and their honeymoon at the London anti-slavery convention where women were refused seats, the raising of seven children, her long partnership with Susan B. Anthony, and her lecture tours by railroad through the West. It is written with humor, confidence and a complete lack of false modesty, and it is the most readable firsthand account of the American women's movement by one of its founders.
