Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815–1902) was an American reformer, the chief intellectual force of the nineteenth-century movement for women's rights. Born in Johnstown, New York, the daughter of a judge, she married the abolitionist Henry Stanton in 1840, omitting the word "obey" from the vows, and in 1848 organized the Seneca Falls convention, where her Declaration of Sentiments first demanded the vote. For fifty years she worked with Susan B. Anthony, writing the speeches that Anthony delivered and compiling the History of Woman Suffrage. She also attacked the churches in The Woman's Bible. Her memoir Eighty Years and More appeared in 1898, four years before her death.
