About 6 h 27 min of reading69 chapters

Chance, Love, and Logic, published in 1923, was the first book-length collection of the essays of Charles S. Peirce, the American logician and founder of pragmatism, edited by Morris R. Cohen nine years after Peirce's death. The first part reprints the series Illustrations of the Logic of Science, including "The Fixation of Belief" and "How to Make Our Ideas Clear," with papers on chance, induction, the order of nature, and deduction, induction and hypothesis. The second part gathers his speculative essays from The Monist, among them "The Architecture of Theories," "The Doctrine of Necessity Examined" and "The Law of Mind." John Dewey contributes a supplementary essay on Peirce's pragmatism. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first essay is free.
