Acres of Diamonds: Our Every-day Opportunities

by Russell H. Conwell

About 2 h 55 min of reading13 chapters

Acres of Diamonds is the lecture Russell H. Conwell delivered more than six thousand times over half a century and used to pay for the founding of Temple University in Philadelphia. It opens with the story of Ali Hafed, the Persian farmer who sold his land to search for diamonds that were lying in his own garden, and goes on to argue that opportunity and wealth are to be found where one already stands, in one's own town, trade and neighbors, if one looks for what people need. This edition, published in 1915, adds Robert Shackleton's account of Conwell's life as soldier, lawyer, preacher and educator, and an autobiographical note on fifty years on the lecture platform. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
