Winds of Rebellion is an early adventure novel by Ernest Haycox, later known for his Westerns, set in the American Revolution. In the spring of 1777, with Washington's army in winter quarters at Morristown, Jeffry Peale, an ambitious young officer who studies military law by lantern light while his comrades drink at the Black Frigate Tavern, is drawn into a mission that brings him face to face with a captain of the King's Own and lands him in the hold of a British prison ship. Escape, storm, pursuit and a final duel follow in quick succession. Haycox writes tightly, with a feel for weather and danger.
