About 15 h 02 min of reading127 chapters

The Well at the World's End, published in 1896 by the Kelmscott Press, is the longest of William Morris's late prose romances and a direct ancestor of modern fantasy. Ralph, the youngest son of the king of the small realm of Upmeads, rides out against his father's wishes and hears of a well far to the east whose water gives long life and renewed youth. His road leads through the Wood Perilous to the Lady of Abundance and her death, to the slave city of Utterbol, and on with the maiden Ursula to the Well itself before the return home. Morris wrote it in an archaic English of his own making. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
