The Son of Monte-Cristo, Volume I
The Son of Monte-Cristo, by the French writer Jules Lermina, is one of the many sequels inspired by Alexandre Dumas's The Count of Monte Cristo, and this English version was published in New York by P. F. Collier in 1904. The story opens in Paris in 1829, at the height of the count's mysterious fame, and recalls the downfall of his enemies, among them the banker Danglars and the murderer Benedetto, before following the fortunes of those who came after them, including the count's son and the next generation of friends and foes. Full of intrigue, disguises, revenge and sudden reversals, it offers readers who loved Dumas's novel another long serial adventure in the same spirit. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
