This volume brings together three works of Tacitus in the eighteenth-century translation by Thomas Gordon, edited by Arthur Galton. The first six books of the Annals tell the reign of the emperor Tiberius from the death of Augustus in A.D. 14 to Tiberius's own death in 37: the mutinies on the frontiers, the campaigns and death of Germanicus, the rise and fall of the prefect Sejanus, and the treason trials that darkened the later years. To these are added the Germania, Tacitus's account of the tribes beyond the Rhine, and the Agricola, the life of his father-in-law, governor of Britain.
