Where the first described the wild tribes from Alaska to Central America, this one treats the Aztecs, Toltecs and other Nahua peoples of central Mexico and the Maya of Yucatán and Guatemala as they were at the time of the Spanish conquest: their governments and kings, laws and courts, warfare, religion and priesthood, calendars and hieroglyphic writing, agriculture, commerce, arts and dress, food, marriage, education and burial.
