About 7 h 19 min of reading38 chapters

This first volume of The Forsyte Saga contains The Man of Property, the novel John Galsworthy published in 1906 and later made the foundation of his chronicle of an upper-middle-class English family, with his preface to the completed Saga of 1922. In the London of 1886 the Forsytes, solid, acquisitive and watchful, gather at Old Jolyon's to inspect the engagement of his granddaughter June to the architect Philip Bosinney. Soames Forsyte, a solicitor, commissions Bosinney to build a house at Robin Hill for his beautiful and unwilling wife Irene, and the two men and the two women are drawn into a conflict over possession, in which the house and the marriage are both at stake. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
