The Forsyte saga - Complete

by John Galsworthy

About 21 h 09 min of reading131 chapters

The Forsyte Saga gathers in one volume the three novels and two interludes with which John Galsworthy chronicled an upper-middle-class English family from 1886 to 1920: The Man of Property, Indian Summer of a Forsyte, In Chancery, Awakening and To Let, first collected in 1922. At its center is Soames Forsyte, the solicitor and collector who regards his beautiful wife Irene as a possession, her love for the architect Bosinney who is building Soames's house at Robin Hill, old Jolyon's late tenderness toward her, the long divorce and remarriages, and in the last book the love of Soames's daughter Fleur for Irene's son Jon. Galsworthy's preface defends the irony of calling such people a saga. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
