The Articles of Faith
A Series of Lectures on the Principal Doctrines of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
The Articles of Faith, published in 1899, is James E. Talmage's systematic exposition of the doctrines of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, written at the request of the church's leadership. Taking as his frame the thirteen Articles of Faith that Joseph Smith set down in 1842, Talmage, a geologist and later an apostle, treats the Godhead, the fall and the atonement, faith, repentance, baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost, the organization and authority of the priesthood, the Bible and the Book of Mormon, continuing revelation, the gathering of Israel, the millennium and the resurrection, and the duties of Sabbath observance, tithing and obedience to law. The book remains a standard reference for members and students of the faith. It is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, with the first chapter free.
