Jesus the Christ
A Study of the Messiah and His Mission According to Holy Scriptures Both Ancient and Modern
Jesus the Christ, published in 1915, was written by James E. Talmage, an apostle of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, at the request of the Church's First Presidency, and he composed much of it in a room of the Salt Lake Temple. It is a life of Jesus in the manner of the nineteenth-century harmonies of the Gospels, following his ministry from the annunciation to the ascension and interpreting each episode in the light of Latter-day Saint doctrine: the premortal existence of Christ, his appearance to the Nephites in the Book of Mormon, and the restoration of his church in the latter days. Each chapter is followed by notes on historical and doctrinal questions. It is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, with the first chapter free.
