Stories from Hans Andersen
Stories from Hans Andersen is the selection of seven tales that Hodder and Stoughton published in 1911 with color plates by Edmund Dulac, one of the gift books that made his reputation. It opens with The Snow Queen, told in seven stories, in which Gerda searches the world for her friend Kay after a splinter of the demon's mirror has frozen his heart, and continues with The Nightingale, the tale of the Chinese emperor and the plain brown bird, The Real Princess, The Garden of Paradise, The Mermaid, The Emperor's New Clothes and The Wind's Tale about Waldemar Daa and His Daughters. The translator is not credited; Andersen published these stories between 1835 and 1859. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first story is free.
