Hans Andersen's Fairy Tales
Hans Andersen's Fairy Tales is an illustrated selection of the stories of H. C. Andersen, who published his tales in Denmark between 1835 and 1872. This collection contains The Marsh King's Daughter, Tommelise, The Snow Queen in its seven stories, Elfin-Mount, The Little Mermaid, The Storks, The Nightingale, The Wild Swans, The Real Princess, The Red Shoes, The Emperor's New Clothes, The Swineherd, The Flying Trunk, The Leaping Match, The Shepherdess and the Chimney-Sweeper, The Ugly Duckling and The Naughty Boy. Andersen drew on folk tales for some of these and invented others outright, and he wrote for adults as much as for children, with a melancholy that the happy endings do not always dispel. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first story is free.
