Rainbow Valley
Rainbow Valley, published in 1919, returns to Glen St. Mary and the family of Anne Blythe, but its center is the manse next door, where the widowed Presbyterian minister John Meredith, absent-minded and gentle, lets his four children raise themselves. Faith, Una, Jerry and Carl Meredith, together with the Blythe children and the sharp-tongued orphan Mary Vance, play in the hollow they call Rainbow Valley, scandalize the congregation by cleaning house on Sunday and holding a concert in the graveyard, and form a Good-Conduct Club to punish themselves. Meanwhile their father's shy courtship of Rosemary West is blocked by a promise. Montgomery dedicated the book to three island men killed in the war.
