Poems
Household Edition
This Household Edition of the Poems of Ralph Waldo Emerson, prepared by his son Edward Waldo Emerson, gathers the verse of the Concord essayist with a biographical sketch and notes. It contains the poems of his 1847 and 1867 collections and later pieces: The Problem, Uriel, The Sphinx, Hamatreya, The Rhodora, The Humble-Bee, The Snow-Storm, Woodnotes, the Concord Hymn with its "shot heard round the world," Brahma, Days, Threnody written on the death of his small son, and Terminus, as well as translations and fragments. Emerson's verse is compressed and sometimes rough, but it carries his ideas about nature, the soul and self-reliance in a more concentrated form than the essays, and several of these poems are permanent parts of American literature. It is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, with the first poems free.
