The third and final volume of Mrs. Thomson's Memoirs of the Jacobites, published in 1846, completes the first collective biography of the men and women who rose for the Stuarts. It is devoted to the rising of 1745: Lord George Murray, the prince's ablest general; James Drummond, styled Duke of Perth; Flora Macdonald, who carried the prince to Skye disguised as her maid; the Earl of Kilmarnock, executed on Tower Hill, whose farewell letter to his son is printed; and Charles Radcliffe, brother of the Earl of Derwentwater, with his letters to the Swinburnes of Capheaton. Appendices give pedigrees, a note on the Frasers and a list of the prince's officers and troops. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
