Memoirs of the Jacobites of 1715 and 1745. Volume I.
Mrs. Thomson's Memoirs of the Jacobites, published in three volumes in 1845 and 1846, was the first attempt at a collective biography of the men who rose for the exiled Stuarts. This first volume, after a general introduction to the Jacobite cause, treats the rising of 1715: the Earl of Mar, who raised the standard at Braemar and whose letters to the King, to Lord Kenmure and to the Chevalier are printed; the young Earl of Derwentwater, executed on Tower Hill in 1716; the Master of Sinclair, with his quarrel with the Duke of Marlborough; and Cameron of Lochiel. Mrs. Thomson drew on family papers and private collections, and her sympathies are plainly with her subjects.
