Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners
Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners, first published in 1666, is John Bunyan's account of his own conversion, written while he was imprisoned in Bedford for preaching without a license. He tells of a rough village boyhood and youth, and then a long, almost unbearable spiritual crisis in which verses of Scripture seem to condemn and then to save him by turns, before he finds peace and is called to preach. The book is the inward source of The Pilgrim's Progress and a landmark of English autobiography. This 1905 edition follows the text Bunyan corrected shortly before his death and adds his Relation of his imprisonment and an early account of his later life. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
