Annals and Antiquities of Rajasthan, v. 3 of 3
or the Central and Western Rajput States of India
James Tod served as political agent to the Rajput states of western India from 1818 to 1822, and his Annals and Antiquities of Rajasthan, first published in 1829 and 1832, remains the foundation of their written history. This third volume of William Crooke's annotated Oxford edition of 1920 opens with Tod's sketch of the Indian desert, its lost rivers, salt wastes and oasis towns, then gives the annals of Amber, the state later ruled from Jaipur, and of Haravati with its chief towns Bundi and Kotah. It closes with Tod's personal narrative of a journey from Udaipur, and with the appendix and the index to all three volumes.
