Annals and Antiquities of Rajasthan, first published in 1829 and 1832, is James Tod's history of the Rajput states of western India, written after years as the East India Company's political agent at Udaipur. This first volume of William Crooke's annotated 1920 edition contains Tod's geography of Rajputana, from the Aravalli hills to the western desert, his account of the origins and genealogies of the Rajput tribes drawn from the Puranas and bardic chronicles, his comparison of the Rajput feudal system with that of medieval Europe, and the beginning of the annals of Mewar, the state of the Sisodia ranas of Chitor and Udaipur. Tod admired the Rajputs deeply, and Crooke's notes correct him where later scholarship disagreed.
