About 5 h 58 min of reading58 chapters

An Undivided Union is the last of Oliver Optic's series The Blue and the Gray on Land, Civil War stories for boys. William Taylor Adams, who wrote as Oliver Optic, died in 1897 before finishing it, and the novel was completed by Edward Stratemeyer, later the creator of the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew. It follows Major Deck Lyon and the Riverlawn Cavalry, a Union regiment from Kentucky, through the Tullahoma campaign in Tennessee in 1863 and the advance toward Chickamauga, with skirmishes, flags of truce, a captured spy, guerrillas and the burning of a cotton mill. The tone is patriotic and the action brisk. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
