L. Tyerman

Luke Tyerman (1820–1889) was an English Wesleyan Methodist minister and historian of early Methodism. After many years in the circuit ministry, he devoted himself to research, gathering letters, journals and pamphlets to produce large, detailed biographies: The Life and Times of the Rev. Samuel Wesley, The Life and Times of the Rev. John Wesley, The Oxford Methodists, a life of George Whitefield, and a study of John Fletcher. Admiring but not uncritical, his books remain valuable for the documents they preserve and for their portrait of eighteenth-century religious life.
