Henry Clay Trumbull (1830–1903) was an American clergyman, editor and writer on biblical antiquities. Born in Connecticut, he was a Sunday-school missionary before the Civil War, served as chaplain of the 10th Connecticut Volunteers, and was captured and imprisoned by the Confederates. From 1875 until his death he edited The Sunday School Times in Philadelphia and became the leading figure of the American Sunday-school movement. His travels in Sinai produced Kadesh-Barnea (1884), and his studies of primitive religion, The Blood Covenant (1885) and The Threshold Covenant (1896), argued that ancient rites of blood and doorway lay behind the covenants of the Bible.
