Anthony Trollope (1815–1882) was an English novelist who spent thirty-three years as an official of the Post Office, traveling the country and the empire on its business and introducing the pillar box to Britain, while writing before breakfast at a fixed rate of words per quarter hour. The Warden in 1855 began the six Barsetshire novels, including Barchester Towers and The Small House at Allington; the Palliser series followed, and The Way We Live Now in 1875 is his darkest study of money and fraud. He wrote forty-seven novels in all. His Autobiography, published after his death, described his method so frankly that his reputation suffered for decades.
