The Works of the Right Honourable Edmund Burke, Vol. 03 (of 12)
The third volume of the Nimmo edition of Edmund Burke's works, published in 1887, contains three works of the 1780s and 1790s. The speech of February 1785 on the Nabob of Arcot's debts, with its appendix of documents, attacks the East India Company's creditors and the corruption of British rule in the Carnatic. The speech on the army estimates of February 1790 contains Burke's first public warning against the French Revolution. The volume then gives the whole of Reflections on the Revolution in France, published in November 1790, in which Burke defends inherited institutions, prescription and the slow growth of a nation's manners against the abstract rights proclaimed in Paris, and predicts the violence to come.
