About 59 min of reading18 chapters

The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus is Christopher Marlowe's play about a Wittenberg scholar who has exhausted the known branches of learning and turns to magic, selling his soul to Lucifer in exchange for twenty-four years of knowledge and power with the devil Mephistophilis as his servant. Faustus uses the bargain to play tricks on the pope, conjure Alexander the Great for an emperor and summon Helen of Troy, and he cannot bring himself to repent before the clock strikes. Written around 1592 and printed in two differing versions after Marlowe's death, the play contains some of the finest verse of the Elizabethan stage alongside knockabout comedy that may not be his.
