The Sun Virgin
The Sun Virgin, published in 1929 and dedicated to the president of Peru, is a historical romance by Thomas Dixon set during Pizarro's conquest of the Inca empire. It opens in Panama, where the starving remnant of Pizarro's expedition has been left on the Island of Gallo and a mutinous crowd of seamen besieges the governor's house, and follows the partners Pizarro, Almagro and Father Luque, the cavalier Molina and the small band that pressed south into the unknown. Against the march to Cajamarca and the fall of Atahualpa, Dixon sets a love story between a Spanish cavalier and one of the maidens consecrated to the Inca cult of the Sun.
