The Lives of the Fathers, Martyrs, and Other Principal Saints. January, February, March
The Lives of the Fathers, Martyrs, and Other Principal Saints, by the English Catholic priest Alban Butler, first appeared between 1756 and 1759 and became a standard work of devotion and reference. This volume covers January, February and March, giving for each day the lives of one or more saints, from the apostles and early martyrs to the bishops, monks, hermits and holy women of later centuries, among them saints of Britain and Ireland. Butler combines historical inquiry, citing his sources in notes, with moral reflection, and writes in a plain and earnest style intended for the instruction of ordinary readers.
