He records the Atlantic crossing, the mutiny and winter in Patagonia and its giants, the passage of the strait that bears Magellan's name, the long starving crossing of the Pacific, the arrival in the Philippines and Magellan's death in battle at Mactan, and the voyage home through the Moluccas and around Africa. Pigafetta notes native words and the plants, animals and customs he saw. This edition, translated and edited by Lord Stanley of Alderley, adds other contemporary documents of the voyage.
