Principles of Political Economy, Vol. 2

by Wilhelm Roscher

Translated by John J. LalorAbout 12 h 39 min of reading23 chapters

This is the second volume of Wilhelm Roscher's Principles of Political Economy in the English translation of John J. Lalor, published in New York in 1878 from the thirteenth German edition. Roscher, founder of the German historical school, here treats the distribution of income, wages, interest and rent, the consumption of wealth and the laws of population, always comparing the practice of different nations and periods rather than reasoning from abstract principle, and quoting the economists of every age in his footnotes. Appendices added to the American edition discuss international trade and the controversy between protection and free trade. The first volume covers production and circulation. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
