About 14 h 07 min of reading234 chapters

The third and final volume of Sir Charles Eliot's Hinduism and Buddhism, published in 1921, follows Indian religion beyond India. After a chapter on the expansion of Indian influence, Eliot surveys the history of Buddhism and Hinduism in Ceylon, Burma, Siam, Cambodia, Champa, Java and the Malay archipelago, and Central Asia, then devotes several chapters to Buddhism in China, with shorter studies of Korea and Annam, and a detailed treatment of Tibet. The closing book considers the mutual influence of Eastern and Western religions. Written by a diplomat with long experience of Asia, the work combines wide reading with first-hand observation, and includes a general index. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
