Baron Trump's Marvellous Underground Journey, published in 1893, is Ingersoll Lockwood's sequel to his earlier book about the boy aristocrat Wilhelm Heinrich Sebastian von Troomp, known as little Baron Trump. Following a clue in the manuscript of an ancient philosopher, the Baron and his dog Bulger set out from the family castle, cross Russia and find a passage into the world beneath the earth, where they pass through the countries of the Transparent Folk, the Rattlebrains, the Mikkamenkies and other peoples with peculiar bodies and stranger customs. Lockwood writes in a mock-pompous voice, with the Baron forever praising his own learning, and the book is a late example of the Victorian fantastic voyage for children.
