Arsène Lupin intervenes

by Maurice Leblanc

About 3 h 59 min of reading11 chapters

Jim Barnett runs a one-man detective agency in the rue Laborde, wears a monocle with a shabby suit, charges his clients nothing and somehow always ends a case richer. His friend Inspector Béchoux of the Paris police brings him problems and lives to regret it. The eight linked stories, with a foreword and afterword, include a royal love letter, a game of baccarat, a bridge that broke and a fatal miracle, and the title gives away the secret of who Barnett really is. Maurice Leblanc published them in French in 1928, and this English version appeared the following year under two different titles on either side of the Atlantic. The stories are available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first one is free.
