William Arnot

William Arnot (1808–1875) was a Scottish Free Church minister and religious writer. The son of a farmer in Perthshire, he was apprenticed to a gardener before studying at Glasgow, and after the Disruption of 1843 he left the Church of Scotland with the founders of the Free Church, serving congregations in Glasgow and then at Free High Church in Edinburgh. He visited the United States several times, attending the Evangelical Alliance in New York in 1873. His books of popular exposition, especially Laws from Heaven for Life on Earth, on the Proverbs, and The Parables of Our Lord, were widely read on both sides of the Atlantic.
