Walter William Skeat (1866–1953) was an English anthropologist and colonial administrator, the son of the Cambridge philologist of the same name. Educated at Christ's College, Cambridge, he joined the civil service of the Federated Malay States in 1891 and served in Selangor for a decade, where he collected the folklore, charms and ceremonies of the Malays that he published in 1900 as Malay Magic. In 1899 and 1900 he led the Cambridge Exploring Expedition to the northern Malay states, and with Charles Otto Blagden he wrote the two-volume Pagan Races of the Malay Peninsula in 1906. Invalided home, he spent the rest of his long life in England.
