Tyrone Power

Tyrone Power (1797–1841) was an Irish actor, playwright and travel writer, famous on the London stage for his comic Irish characters. Born in County Waterford, he joined a company of strolling players as a teenager and by the late 1820s was one of the best-loved comedians in London. He wrote several plays and novels, and between 1833 and 1835 toured the United States and Canada with great success, recording his travels in Impressions of America (1836). Returning from a second American tour in 1841, he was lost at sea when the steamship President disappeared in the Atlantic. The film actor Tyrone Power was his great-grandson.
