Titus Coan (born 1801) was an American Congregational missionary who spent nearly fifty years at Hilo on the island of Hawaii. Born in Killingworth, Connecticut, he was ordained in 1833 and arrived in the Hawaiian Islands with his wife Fidelia in 1835. His preaching in the Hawaiian language during the revival of 1837 to 1840 brought thousands into his church, and he baptized more converts than any missionary of his board. He was also a careful observer of the volcanoes Kilauea and Mauna Loa, reporting eruptions to American scientific journals. His writings include Adventures in Patagonia, Life in Hawaii and the tract The Sailor's Sabbath.
