Thieleman J. van Braght

Thieleman J. van Braght (1625–1664) was a Dutch Mennonite minister and historian. Born in Dordrecht, he devoted himself to study and became a preacher of the Flemish Mennonite congregation in his city in 1648. He wrote catechetical and devotional works, but his lasting achievement was The Bloody Theatre, or Martyrs Mirror, published in 1660, a vast compilation of accounts of Christians who suffered for their faith, above all the Anabaptists of the sixteenth century. It remains a household book among Mennonite and Amish families.
