S. B. C. Samuels

Mrs. S. B. C. Samuels was an American writer of children's books in the years after the Civil War. Her best-known work is the Springdale Stories, a series of six moral tales published in Boston around 1870 by Lee and Shepard, whose titles include Adele, Eric, Herbert, Nettie's Trial, Johnstone's Farm and Ennisfellen. Combining travel, family life and lessons in honesty and kindness, her books are typical of the improving fiction written for young readers of the period.
