Ridgwell Cullum (1867–1943) was an English novelist of the American and Canadian West. As a young man he left London to seek his fortune, prospecting for gold in the Transvaal and the Yukon, ranching in Montana and, by his own account, taking part in the Indian wars of the 1880s. He drew on these experiences for some thirty popular adventure novels, among them The Story of the Foss River Ranch, The Hound from the North, The Watchers of the Plains, The Night Riders and The Way of the Strong, several of which were filmed.
