Richard Falckenberg (1851–1920) was a German historian of philosophy. A pupil of Kuno Fischer, Rudolf Eucken and others, he began his academic career at Jena and in 1888 became professor of philosophy at Erlangen, where he remained. His History of Modern Philosophy from Nicolas of Cusa to the Present Time, first published in 1886 and revised several times, became a widely used textbook in Germany and, in A. C. Armstrong's translation, in the United States. He also wrote on Nicolas of Cusa and on Hermann Lotze, and edited a series of philosophical classics. His work is valued for its clarity and balance.
