Richard Dehan was the pen name of Clotilde Graves (1863–1932), an Irish writer born in County Cork who worked as a journalist, illustrator and actress in London before finding success as a playwright with Nitocris in 1887 and the farce A Mother of Three. In her late forties she turned to fiction under the male pseudonym and in 1910 published The Dop Doctor, a long novel of the siege of Mafeking that sold enormously and was filmed. Between Two Thieves and That Which Hath Wings followed. She became a Roman Catholic in 1896 and spent her last years in a convent nursing home in Middlesex.
