Rasmus Björn Anderson

Rasmus Björn Anderson (1846–1936) was a Norwegian-American scholar, author and diplomat. Born in Wisconsin to Norwegian immigrant parents, he became the first professor of Scandinavian languages at the University of Wisconsin. His America Not Discovered by Columbus argued for the Norse voyages to North America, and his Norse Mythology was one of the first systematic accounts of the subject in English. He translated Scandinavian authors, including Snorri's Edda, served as United States minister to Denmark under President Cleveland, and later edited the Norwegian-language newspaper Amerika.
