Philip Parker King (1791–1856) was a Royal Navy officer, hydrographer and explorer, born on Norfolk Island, the son of a governor of New South Wales. Between 1817 and 1822 he charted much of the coast of northern and western Australia, and from 1826 to 1830 he commanded the survey of the southern coasts of South America in the Adventure, with the Beagle under his orders. His narrative forms the first volume of the account edited by Robert FitzRoy. He later settled in New South Wales, managed the Australian Agricultural Company, sat in the colony's Legislative Council and became a rear admiral.
