Neil Munro (1863–1930) was a Scottish novelist and journalist. Born in Inveraray in Argyll, he worked as a clerk before turning to journalism in Glasgow, where he rose to become editor of the Glasgow Evening News. His historical novels of the Highlands, among them John Splendid, Doom Castle, Gilian the Dreamer and The New Road, drew on the history and Gaelic culture of his native county. Under the pen name Hugh Foulis he also wrote the comic stories of Para Handy, skipper of the cargo boat Vital Spark, which have remained popular in Scotland and were adapted several times for television.
